If you're a fan of McDonald's Filet-o-Fish Sandwich, you can't miss this homemade version that competes with the drive-thru original. As one of our taste testers at the kitchen, Liz Mervosh, described it, "It's not just a copycat; it's actually better – more fish, more cheese, more sauce. The combination of the crispy breaded fish and the soft bun is exceptional. Skip the drive-thru and craft your own sandwich."
Ingredients:
- Canola oil, for frying
- 4 skinless cod fillets (about 4x4 inches and 1-inch thick)
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon mayonnaise

- 1 tablespoon corn starch
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika
- 2 cups panko breadcrumbs
- 4 brioche hamburger buns
- 4 processed American cheese slices
- 2 teaspoons tap water

- Cooked shoestring fries
Directions:
- Heat canola oil in a Dutch oven to 360°F.
