The Origin of a Flavorful Grilled Sandwich
This delightful grilled sandwich, featuring a crispy roll stuffed with roast pork, ham, Swiss cheese, and pickles, was first crafted in Cuba but has become a favorite across the United States. Referred to as a Cubano, this dish presents an excellent opportunity to utilize any leftover Pernil Asado con Mojo.
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise
- One 8-inch Cuban roll, split lengthwise
- 1/2 cup of shredded leftover roast pork shoulder
- 3 slices of deli ham
- 3 slices of Swiss cheese
- 10 dill pickle chips
- 1 tablespoon of yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
Instructions:

Step 1
Begin by spreading mayonnaise on the bottom half of the roll. Layer it with pork, ham, cheese, and pickle chips. Spread mustard on the top half of the roll, then assemble the sandwich.

In a large skillet over medium-high heat, heat the oil. Once hot, add the sandwich and press it down with a cast-iron skillet. Cook, flipping once, until the roll turns golden brown and the cheese melts, approximately 8-10 minutes. Slice the sandwich in half and serve piping hot.
